Who are Whovians 4 Research ?
Whovians 4 Research has for goal to enlight project like cancer research or more widely medical research, and also improvement in patient’s life condition.
Our mouvement don’t wish to get money, and we don’t accept donations. Our only purpose is to sensibilize « Doctor Who » fans to mobilize together in an altruist and positive goal.
Why Cancer in particular ?
Since two or three years we have lost lots of former actors of the show « Doctor Who » … As the point where some fatalism install in the fandom. « An other one » says some fans, « Why this disease destroy the life around us and among the one we admire ? »
Origin of the idea
I was a bit depressed. We just lost Maggie Stabbles after a « long illness » and my grand mother had began her chimio. I was making a list in my head of all « Doctor Who » actors who had have cancer. A way too long list.
The « Harry Potter » fandom had succesfully create the « Harry Potter Alliance » , for human rights and it was in 2005. Strangely a group like the Whovians, who’s favourite serie is about courage, helping each others,solidarity and openess, didn’t create a movement like HPA.
Talking about this with my friends who also are administrators of the « facebook » group about « Classic Doctor Who » (that I found) I was suprise to see my idea getting an echo « What you want to do it ? » Me ? Well yes why not ?
